Hot food takeaway for sale - Leeds university district

An ideal opportunity has arisen to take a new lease at this building in 'Leeds University land'

Exciting opportunity to acquire this leasehold takeaway unit which has recently closed due to unforeseen personal circumstances. This has traded to a high level in the past and could undoubtedly do so again in the hands of an enthusiastic new owner. The premises are located in a densely populated area between Meanwood and Headingley.  Exciting trading location offered with the security of a new lease and sensible rent. This is deceptively spacious two storey building, comprising: good sized sales area, kitchen to the rear and good basement storage. To the first floor is a staff area and WC.

Tong Garden Centre's new owners promise big investment
A garden centre near Bradford is looking for a dramatic increase in turnover following its sale by the owner.

The business is set to become 'one of the best garden centres in the region'
The business is set to become "one of the best garden centres in the region"

Tong Garden Centre, in Tong village, has been run by Ron Harker and his family since 1984. Now, though, he wants to retire and appointed business agents Ernest Wilson to review the market and find a buyer. As a result he has sold the centre on to entrepreneurs Tom Megginson and Mark Farnsworth.

With 17 acres, Tong is one of the biggest garden centres in Yorkshire and employs around 140 people. However, the new owners, who have acquired the freehold of the site, are promising significant investment in their new business, and will be implementing their plans over the next few weeks. As part of the changes, Tong will also relaunch its website.

Commenting on the deal, Mr Megginson said: "We have been looking for a new site and having been introduced to Tong Garden Centre by Ernest Wilson.

"It allows us to harness our previous business experience and take Tong Garden Centre from a successful business to a multi-million pound turnover business which will not only provide a fantastic destination for our customers but will also dramatically increase the number of employees, thus helping the local economy."

Jonathan Holmes of Ernest Wilson, added: "The purchasers have some very exciting plans which I believe will really put this business on the map as one of the best garden centres in the region."

After Tong Garden Centre suffered a huge fire 15 years ago it had a £3.5m refit, which included new retail buildings, a restaurant, warehousing, glasshouses and polytunnels, along with parking for 700 cars.

Leading Yorkshire-based business agents Ernest Wilson have successfully negotiated a multi-million pound deal to sell Tong Garden Centre.

Ron Harker appointed Ernest Wilson to review the market and find a purchaser for the 17-acre site following his decision to retire having owned the business since 1984.
The garden centre in Bradford has been purchased freehold by two East Yorkshire businessmen Tom Megginson and Mark Farnsworth who have substantial redevelopment plans.
Both Mr Megginson and Mr Farnsworth own several other businesses, including farm shop Williams Farm Kitchen in Hornsea and a Biogas plant, GWE Biogas in Driffield.
Mr Megginson said: “We have been looking for a new site and having been introduced to Tong Garden Centre by Ernest Wilson, it allows us to harness our previous business experience and take Tong Garden Centre from a successful business to a multi-million pound turnover business which will not only provide a fantastic destination for our customers but will also dramatically increase the number of employees thus helping the local economy.”
Jonathan Holmes, of Ernest Wilson, said: “As one of the largest independently owned businesses in West Yorkshire it has been a pleasure to act on Mr Harker’s behalf in the sale of Tong Garden Centre and ensuring Ron now enjoys a well-deserved retirement.”
He added: “The purchasers have some very exciting plans which I believe will really put this business on the map as one of the best garden centres in the region”.
Following a serious fire in 2000 the garden centre was completely re-built incorporating a range of buildings including retail sales, restaurant, warehousing, glass houses and poly-tunnels extending to over 110,000 sq ft with car parking for 700 vehicles.
